Hostage
Synopsis
On a collision course with fate; a violent hostage taking becomes the intense background for an unexpected emotional connection between a young Korean woman and her Hispanic captor. This connection results in the paradoxical depiction of a psychological phenomenon, known as Stockholm Syndrome.
Director’s Bio
As a Toronto based Actress performing in the commercial field of both film and television over the past ten years,
HOSTAGE/Secuestro is a Directorial Debut for Korean/Canadian Joanna Jang.
Born in Toronto, Ontario Canada, Joanna has been an ACTRA union Actress for the past 10 years, appearing in various TV Series and Feature Films such as Life Network’s DEVIL’S TEARDROP (Tom Everett Scott and Natasha Henstridge), CTV’s DAN FOR MAYOR and CBC’s the BORDER.
With this experience in storytelling through performance, she strives to create deep emotional impact on the audience through the heart of the characters, and their plight. The influence of both her Korean heritage and being raised in North America; are evident in the dark tone and style of the story.
Fascinated by the freedom directing and writing enables an artist to create and influence the world for the audience; her goals and vision as an emerging filmmaker is to make and create riveting stories that compel the audience to not only witness and observe a story, but to experience it, and feel it. Intensely.
